Warning...my rant...and at this point...I am less than amused.....

The drive to perpetuate the species is ingrained in each of us.  It is one of our strongest drives as women, to nurture life.  And noting this very topic in both my daughter’s LJ and several friends…this seemed the appropriate time to post my own thots.

I’ve never been able to bear a child thanks to the abuse of my first ex.  I’ve wanted children very badly and I love babies.  Nothing can turn me into a pile of fierce mush like the laughter of a child, or bring tears to my eyes like the sight of the exchange between a mother and her child.  Even at 51, my arms ache for a baby.

That said….I am highly amused at those men who claim that the sperm that they donate…and usually a child is the last thing on their minds…they just want to get their rocks off….gives them rights to decide in their typical male fashion…that they can decide what the mother who carries the life inside her…can and can’t do.  Um…excuse me?    When does motherhood = chattel?  While there may or may not be doubt about who actually is the sperm donor….until such time that paternity tests can be performed…there is rarely any doubt about who is actually is carrying that child and giving birth.  Pregnancy is a state rather difficult to conceal or fake in month 8.

In more cases than the norm even in today’s ‘enlightened’ society…it is the mother who cares for the child, raises it, and often is financially responsible for its needs…both physical and emotional.  And while I know that there are fathers out there who are responsible and take their obligations seriously…including several who are raising their own children as single parents (and I am NOT bashing that or them in any way, in fact I think they should be nominated for an award), they are sadly not in the majority. 

So…while a supportive family unit and a loving stable relationship between two people is the best and most desirable for raising well adjusted children…it is by no means a requirement.  Better that the child have one parent who loves them…than two who are too busy fighting to attend to the child’s needs.  So men being able to use the power of the penis and sperm to control whether or not you can or if you can have a child?  Um…nope.  It’s called artificial insemination …..

As for ‘I made you pregnant so now you have to stay with me?’  Doesn’t that rank right up there with the fable about the tooth fairy?  Goddess…has something been put into the drinking water that makes men lose what little sense they have at times?

Our children…born of our bodies…our bone…our blood….you just happened to donate…and what the heck are you bitching about anyway?  If you didn’t enjoy donating…well then you should have worn a rubber…its called…PREVENTION.
